Costa Reading Week

CBBC Presenter Kate Thistleton took part in Manchester
We would like to thank Costa for their previous support through Costa Reading Week activities. In their two years of organising Reading Week, Costa sponsored more than twelve hundred schools, enabling some 72,000 pupils to gain valuable education about their environment through the messages in Sparky's Big Idea, a Barney and Echo story

Costa Reading Week, held in September was a fantastic success...

Held in 550 stores across the country, everyone enjoyed the literacy activities and of course the free Coffee!

Parents, children and teachers who visited their local participating Costa store took part in Reading Week activities and were offered a free beverage whilst enjoying a special range of activities which included;

a)The Barney and Echo project.
The emphasis for this PSHE project was Sparky’s Big Idea, a Barney and Echo story from the Police Community Clubs of Great Britain all about the environment.
Go to http://www.barneyecho.co.uk/sparky-s-big-idea/ for further information about the project and to see a sample of the book and resources.

b) The Litter Heroes story to read, especially created for Costa for Reading Week and featuring a new story from Barney & Echo, all about litter and responsibility in our communities.

c) A special Environmental activities booklet to complete. This is to help stimulate young minds to begin to think about their environment and how sustainability can impact their choices.

d) Helping Hand Environmental will be creating a special Design Your Own Litter Picker competition entry form where children can not only design their own equipment, but also see the winning design come to life when Helping Hand manufacture the design and present it to the winners!
